After what seems like decades and, after checking, it is decades, the long talked about sequel to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure is going to happen. The second film was released way back in 1991 and since then Keanu Reeves went onto success with Speed the Matrix franchise and most recently John Wick whilst Alex Winter went on to……um…well obscurity. But it was Winter who first let the cat out of the bag here that something was afoot.
So at last it can be confirmed that the pair are to reprise their iconic roles as time-travellers Ted Theodore Logan and Bill S. Preston Esq. in a third film which bizarrely lists director/producer Steven Soderbergh (‘Unsane‘ ‘ Logan Lucky‘) as an executive producer.
The third film rather than be titled Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure 3 is rumoured to be titled “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” and the films originals writers Chris Matheson (“Imagine That”) and Ed Solomon (“Men in Black”) have penned the script while Dean Parisot (“Galaxy Quest,” “Red 2”) will direct.
With both actors well past their teen prime for the roles the new film will rightly have the duo long past their days as time-travelling teenagers and now weighed down by middle age and family commitments. And still they’ve yet to write a good song let alone the greatest ever written.
With time and space collapsing around them a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. The duo set out on a time travel adventure to find it, with the help of their daughters, historical figures, and sympathetic music legends.
MGM owns the rights to the film and will release it in the U.S. under its Orion Pictures banner. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure 3 is currently in pre-production and Cannes Film festival is around the corner so this is where the international sales pitch will launch.
