Looks like Christmas is going to be a petrol heads dream because not only is Mortal Engines being released but it also sees the first Transformers spin off movie with the first glimpse of the Bumblebee trailer.

Paramount who are the studio behind the film must be hoping that it will reinvigorate the series after the disappointing returned for Transformers The Last Knight which made only $605 million which was just over half what Transformers Age of Extinction made. It also contributed to making Mark Wahlberg the worst value film star of 2017 in terms of what he was paid and what his films actually earned at the worldwide box office.

The story is set in 1987 with Bumblebee finding refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), who is on the edge of seventeen, discovers the battle-scarred and broken yellow VW bug and quickly learns his true nature.

Now that last bit sounds a bit flaky to us but the trailer has a load of action set pieces as well as a funny pay off at the expense of Rick Astley.

Steinfield’s co-stars in the Bumblebee trailer are John Cena, Pamela Adlon, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow and Grace Dzienny. Bumblebee will be voiced by Martin Short apparantly.

The film is directed by Travis Knight whose previous film was the stop motion mash up Kubo and the Two Strings which was pretty good and was Oscar nominated so it should be interesting to see what he brings to a big action blockbuster.

It seems that anything mechanical can be made into a film these and for those who are not aware or have managed to banish it from their memories there was even a kids animated film way back in 1987 called ‘The Brave Little Toaster‘. Thankfully the expected spin offs, ‘The Cowardly dishwasher’, ‘The Marvellous Microwave’ And ‘The Lonely Expresso Maker we got for Christmas and has been kept in the back of a kitchen cupboard ever since’ never got made. We’re pretty sure the Bumblebee trailer will be better….

Bumblebee is released in the UK on December 26th and in the US on 21st December 2018

Here’s the trailer…..
