So with the summer blockbusters well and truly behind us we go into the Autumn and the film festivals and the films that might well be Oscar nominees and winners. To that end we give you the ‘Can you ever forgive me? trailer.
Starring Melissa McCarthy (Ghostbusters, The Boss) it is an adaptation of the memoir CAN YOU EVER FORGIVE ME?, the true story of best-selling celebrity biographer (and friend to cats) Lee Israel (Melissa McCarthy) who made her living in the 1970’s and 80’s profiling the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Tallulah Bankhead, Estee Lauder and journalist Dorothy Kilgallen. When Lee is no longer able to get published because she has fallen out of step with current tastes, she turns her art form to deception, abetted by her loyal friend Jack (Richard E. Grant).
Apart from Melissa McCarthy the Can you ever forgive me? trailer also features Richard E. Grant (Logan) and Dolly Wells (45 Years) and is directed by Marielle Heller (The Diary of a Teenage Girl) and written by Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said).
The Can you ever forgive me? trailer does look pretty good and Melissa McCarthy like many comedians such as Paul Whitehouse and Steve Carrell shows she can do straight drama as well as comedy. Whether this will b awards worthy remains to be seen but at present McCarthy is proving to be one of most successful comedy actresses in film at present and is also producing too with the recent Happytime Murders having her Producer name on it too.
The Can you ever forgive me? trailer is a reminder that it is playing at the forthcoming London festival with tickets now available if you want to get a heads up on the film which is not released in the UK until next year.
