Elvis – TRAILER

1977 saw the death Elvis Presley at the age of only 42. He was and probably still is one of the biggest singing stars ever. Oscar-nominated visionary filmmaker Baz Luhrmann has turned his attentions to the late superstar as we first reported HERE with the release of the Elvis trailer starring Austin Butler in the title role and Oscar winner Tom Hank as his manager Colonel Tom Parker.

The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

Starring alongside Hanks and Butler is award-winning theatre actress Helen Thomson who plays Elvis’s mother, Gladys, Richard Roxburgh (“Hacksaw Ridge”) portrays Elvis’s father, Vernon, and DeJonge plays Priscilla. Luke Bracey plays Jerry Schilling, Natasha Bassett (“Hail, Caesar!”) plays Dixie Locke, David Wenham plays Hank Snow, Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“The Trial of the Chicago 7,”) plays B.B. King, Xavier Samuel plays Scotty Moore, and Kodi Smit-McPhee  plays Jimmie Rodgers Snow.  Also in the cast, Dacre Montgomery plays TV director Steve Binder, alongside Australian actors Leon Ford as Tom Diskin, Kate Mulvany as Marion Keisker, Gareth Davies (“Peter Rabbit,”) as Bones Howe, Charles Grounds (“Crazy Rich Asians,”) as Billy Smith, Josh McConville as Sam Phillips, and Adam Dunn  as Bill Black.

From the look at the Elvis trailer this like a star making role for Austin Butler and we are keen to see more of Tom Hanks as the notoriously shady manager Colonel Tom Parker, a military title he gave himself. Forget all the ropey films Elvis made, ignore the campy bloated Vegas years and take a look at his 1968 comeback TV special which shows him at his peak and just how utterly magnetic a stage persona he was.

Elvis will be released nationwide on 24th June 2022
