Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson reunite for.......

With their first film together being Jungle Cruise for which a sequel is in development with its original stars set to reprise their roles. Well we now have news that Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson reunite for The Smashing Machine

Johnson is set to star in The Smashing Machine as real-life mixed martial arts fighter Mark Kerr, a two-time UFC Heavyweight Tournament Champion. Blunt would star as Dawn Staples, the new wife to Kerr. Written and directed by Benny Safdie who has been developing the project with Johnson, (who notably started his career as a professional wrestler) since 2019.

Mark Kerr’s professional career and his rise through the fighting world, as well as his battle with an addiction to pain killers eventually led to an overdose. Kerr earned the nickname “The Smashing Machine” due to no-holds-barred fighting style and his story was seen in a 2002 HBO doc also titled The Smashing Machine.

Johnson and Safdie first connected on the project in 2019, but fell out of touch and put the film on hold due to the pandemic. Years later, on a phone call with Blunt, Johnson opened up to her about his desire to reconnect with the project and play Kerr. After watching the 2002 documentary “The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Extreme Fighter Mark Kerr,” Blunt encouraged Johnson: “You must make this movie.” When Blunt and Safdie spoke on the set of “Oppenheimer,” Johnson’s name came up, prompting Safdie to reconnect with the “Black Adam” actor and continue pursuing “The Smashing Machine.”

The film will begin production this summer which sees Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson reunite for what should be a decent film

With the recent release of The Iron Claw starring Zac Efron it would seem that wrestling bio-pics are back in bogue once more. No news yet of a film about British wrestling legends Big Daddy or Giant Haystacks or the Barmy Badger (OK, we made up that last one)
