Mad Max Fury Road was an astonishing spectacle and was rightly Oscar nominated including best picture, director, cinematography and visual effects and won in the categories of film editing, sound editing, sound mixing, production design, makeup and hairstyling and costume design. A critical and commercial success everyone wanted more and now we have it with the release of the Furiosa trailer!
The prequel to “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the action entry, which sees Anya Taylor-Joy shaving her head to take on the role of Imperator Furiosa, the fierce war captain that Charlize Theron played in the 2015 action film. The prequel, which is the fifth entry in Miller’s “Mad Max” franchise, follows a young Furiosa as she comes into her own after being taken away from the Green Place of Many Mothers and is immersed into a sinister world.
An updated title, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” is the actual title it will be known as but let’s be fair we are all going to be calling it Furiosa. Talking about his role as Dementos in the film Chris Hemsworth has said, “He’s a complicated individual. He’s a very violent, insane, brutal person that is born from the Wasteland, which is the world the ‘Mad Max’ saga takes place in. He’s a product of his environment,” adding, “He has been birthed into a space where it’s kill or be killed. He’s learned to rule with an iron fist.’
The Furiosa prequel/spin-off was conceived even before Fury Road was made, with Miller writing a script that predated Fury Road filming. Yet the project was held up for years due to a legal battle between Miller and the studio over Fury Road profits. In 2017, Miller’s loan-out company sued the studio who refused to pay an agreed-upon $7 million bonus if Fury Road‘s budget came in under $157 million. Miller contended the film only cost more because of “substantial changes and delays” created by the studio. Miller is rumoured to have plans for two additional Fury Road sequels that include Mad Max.
Furiosa” is set to race into theaters on 24th May 2024.
