It’s been 30 years since the cinematic abomination that was ‘Masters of the Universe’ soiled our screens with Dolph Lundgren strutting around in a pair of leather pants as He Man and Frank Langella wondering what his carer had come to as he growled away behind a latex skeleton mask as the arch enemy Skeletor. He was not the only one, as also in the film was a then unknown Courtney Cox whose career took an upturn in 1994 when she was cast in Friends.
So enough time has gone for the studios to want to reboot the film of the toy and a director, David S Goyer, is already in place. Goyer penned the most recent draft of the script based on the iconic 1980s animated series which was spun-off into “She-Ra: Princess of Power”. Although Goyer has a few ropey scripts in his back catalogue including ‘Kickboxer 2’ he has written significantly better films ranging from the Blade trilogy as well as the story credit for Christopher Nolan‘s Batman trilogy and is also involved in the reboot of Terminator.
His story for the reboot follows Prince Adam, who has the ability to transform into a warrior called He-Man. As He-Man, Adam becomes the last hope for a magical land called Eternia, ravaged by technology and the evil Skeletor.
No word yet on casting but film is set for a December 18th 2019 release which means we’ve got a little while before our Editor starts leaping round the office wearing a pair of ill fitting speedos and the cleaner’s mop on his head shouting, ‘By the power of Greyskull !’ (You’re fired! – Ed)
Here’s the trailer for the original…….
