James Gunn talks about the Marvel DC crossover film…..

With director James Gunn about to release his final Guardians of the Galaxy film for Marvel talk has turned to his newly appointed position as Head of DC films over at Warners alongside producer Peter Safran and there’s been much talk now of a Marvel / DC crossover film.

It’s not as wild an idea as might first appear with characters in shared adventures thatv started back as the 1970s. Spider-Man has teamed with Superman and Batman, The Hulk has battled Batman, and even the Silver Surfer has met Superman. Not to mention the Avengers and Justice League of America team-ups.

Gunn recently did a magazine interview where he was asked about such a Marvel / DC crossover film and replied, ‘“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC],” Gunn told the magazine, “Who knows?………That’s many years away, though. I think we have to establish what we’re doing [at DC] first. I would be lying to say that we haven’t discussed it. But all discussions have been very, very light and fun.”

It seems that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is not adverse to the idea and has supported Gunn’s transition to leading DC Studios where he will co-head a new DC universe that will take in movies, television shows and video games the first of which will be  “Superman: Legacy,” “Supergirl: World of Tomorrow” and “The Bold and the Brave,” the latter of which is a Batman and Robin movie.

As for superhero fatigue Gunn went on to say, ‘I get fatigued by most spectacle films, by the grind of not having an emotionally grounded story,…….. “It doesn’t have anything to do with whether they’re superhero movies or not. If you don’t have a story at the base of it, just watching things bash each other, no matter how clever those bashing moments are, no matter how clever the designs and the VFX are, it just gets fatiguing, and I think that’s very, very real.”
