So with the announcement about Marvels Phase Four slate of films we we thought we’d take a look at what we know about the Eternals film which for the many who may not have heard about the characters is a race of gods in the Marvel universe with an ensemble focus that has far more of a cosmic angle than “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Thor”.
On US TV Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige along with all the cast yalked openly about the diversity and inclusiveness of the Eternals film which will include Marvel’s first deaf character as well as the first openly gay superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
From what Feige has said the gay character is far more than just token sexuality: “He’s married. He’s got a family. And that is just part of who he is.” Though he did not state which character this would be the commonly held belief is that it will be Richard Madden’s Ikaris character.
What also has come out is that the Eternals film has cast Game of Thrones star Kit Harington playing Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight and Kevin Feige hints that the role is likely to be included in other Marvel franchises: “We were so happy when [Harington] agreed to join. And it is a part that could perhaps grow into something else in the future.”
Actor Brian Tyree Henry, who will play super fast Phastos in the Eternal film has also spoken to the trade press about a Avengers vs. Eternals match-up: “Without us, there would be no Avengers. There would be no Guardians of the Galaxy. There would be no galaxy. So you’re welcome, Chris Pratt’s character… we’re gods, if they want to throw down they wouldn’t win. But it’s all good. Not trying to start no beef, no street beef but…” at which point co-star Kumail Nanjiani cut in with: “but we would destroy them.”
