Popstars in films have had a chequered past as we laid out HERE but with the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman and the forthcoming Bowie pic ‘Stardust‘ it seems that films about the great popstars are coming thick and fast and the latest rumour has it that we may soon get Mariah the Movie soon. The pop warbler has revealed that she is in early talks with a “special friend” to adapt her warts-and-all memoir “The Meaning of Mariah Carey” into a limited series or feature film. We’ve no issue with that although we are a little taken aback at the news that she may well direct it herself when her previous experience in this area has been limited to her videos.
Her book, The Meaning of Mariah Carey was pretty revealing as it followed her course from a low-income Long Island upbringing to becoming the best-selling female artist of all time (we thought it was Madonna)– discussing a traumatic childhood traumas and a rocky marriage too. All of this came up in a recent interview about her Apple TV+ Christmas special and she was asked why she didn’t direct the Apple TV+ holiday special herself when she had hinted at directing Mariah the Movie in the memoir adaptation saying:
Quite when we may get Mariah the Movie is yet to be confirmed
