Director David Cronenberg has made his impact with an array of at times disturbing body horror films that have included Shivers, Rabid, Scanners, Videodrome and his biggest commercial success The Fly starring Jeff Goldblum in an astonishing turn. Seemingly retired from directing since his 2014 film ‘Map to the Stars’ it looks like he has passed the baton to his son. So following in his Dad’s formidable footsteps is Brandon Cronenberg with his debut feature film, Possessor starring Andrea Riseborough.
Tasya Vos is a corporate agent who uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people’s bodies, driving them to commit assassinations for the benefit of the company. While she has a special gift for the work, her experiences on these jobs have caused a dramatic change in her, and in her own life she struggles to suppress violent memories and urges. As her mental strain intensifies, she begins to lose control, and soon she finds herself trapped in the mind of a man whose identity threatens to obliterate her own.
Possessor features a stellar cast including Christopher Abbott (It Comes at Night), Rossif Sutherland, Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey), Sean Bean (we’re keen to see what happens to him as as his character doesn’t normally survive) and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight). We’re intrigued with the star Andrea Riseborough as she’s appeared in a load of high profile films in a number of different genres that have included comedy Mindhorn (see our ink to the premiere HERE), drama in the excellent ‘Hidden Animals’, award winning bio-pics – ‘Battle of the Sexes’ and horror with the recent Grudge remake. yet she still has not had a breakout role to make her a household name and the Possessor trailer sees her staying within the horror genre.
Possessor is released in the UK on 27th November 2020
