After the relative box office failure of The BFG it seems Steven Spielberg is back on firmer ground with his next film an adaptation of Ernest Cline’s novel, “Ready Player One”.
The story set in a virtual world called Oasis (which fortunately does not feature two foul mouthed mono-browed Mancunians) it follows a teenager (Tye Sheridan) competing in a treasure hunt against ruthless foes after the enigmatic founder (Mark Rylance) of the game dies and offers his immense wealth as the prize.
Olivia Cooke, Lena Waithe, T.J. Miller and Ben Mendelsohn co-star in the film which will also feature a load of 1980s references and easter eggs, except for Spielberg’s own filmography which he is avoiding. The trailer includes characters and vehicles from “Akira,” “Back to the Future,” “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” and “The Iron Giant” which Spielberg has said will play a big part of the film.
The film opens March 30th next year. Here’s the trailer…….
