Is Robert Redford retiring after all…….?

Despite our best attempts and having left hints around the office such as bags of Werther’s  originals, Saga brochures and incontinence pants our Editor still refuses to retire. Admittedly he’s far too young but it never does any harm to drop hints. That said with the release of The Old Man and the Gun about to open in America it appears that rumours about acting legend Robert Redford retiring may not be true after all.

Now having turned 82-year-old Redford will soon be seen in the David Lowery (A Ghost Story) crime comedy “The Old Man & The Gun,” in what was commonly believed to be his final on-screen role following comments back in August this year when in which he suggested about Robert Redford retiring from acting altogether.

Now though it seems that that may not now be the case. At last night’s premiere he told the audience something different seeming to do a bit of an about turn on what he had said saying.,

‘That was a mistake. I should never have said that. If I’m going to retire I should just slip away quietly from acting but I shouldn’t be talking about it because I think it draws too much attention in the wrong way. I want to be focused on this film and the cast’

He was then asked to confirm whether or not this would be his last film as an actor to which he replied,

I’m not answering that. Keep the mystery alive’.

Several actors have effectively retired from acting the best of which is probably Gene Hackman way back in 2004 with 100 credits to his name and 2 Oscars also. Unfortunately his last film was the utterly lamentable,’Welcome to Mooseport ‘ a $30m budgeted film that made only $14m worldwide. Thankfully ‘The Old Man and the Gun’ looks a lot better.

So is Robert Redford retiring? Only he knows.
