After the immense success of ‘Titanic’ self professed King of the World, and presumably founder of the Anti Modesty League, director James Cameron had a number of projects kicking around that he was toying with directing next and ‘Alita:Battle Angel’ was one of them. Based on a manga concept he eventually abandoned it for his lanky smurf extravaganza ‘Avatar’ whose follow up trilogy (yes, there will be 3 more!) start filming next year.
But the project is still to go ahead with Mexican action maestro Robert Rodriguez to direct with Cameron producing and Christoph Waltz to star. It’s just been announced that the villain of the piece will be rising action star and martial arts mayhem enthusiast Ed Skrein (rhymes with, ‘Ow! that’s my Spleen!’) who will play will play a character named Zapan, a cyborg who is in possession of a weapon called the Damascus blade…whatever that is… sounds like a kitchen knife from Ronco!
It’s rumoured that the story is set in the 26th century and tells of a female cyborg Alita (Rosa Salazar) found by a scientist in a scrapyard. Able only to remember her deadly martial-arts training, the woman becomes a bounty hunter, tracking down criminals unlike our Editor whose only memory is his last drink and is able only to track down the nearest bar.
‘Alita:Battle Angel’ starts filming in October and at present has a release date in the US of 20th July 2018
