This is the photo that has inspired a new horror film!
Called ‘The Slender Man’ he is a tall, thin figure with unnaturally long arms and a featureless face and first appeared on the Internet in 2009 as a submission in a photoshop contest on a website called ‘Something Awful’ in which users were challenged to edit everyday photographs to appear paranormal.
A forum poster with the user name “Victor Surge” who was in real life Eric Knudsen, contributed two black and white images of groups of children and added a spectral figure wearing a black suit. He wrote under one of the photographs: “He is thought to be responsible for the haunting, stalking, and disappearance of countless children and teens.” The chararcter is sometimes described as having black tendrils that extend from his back and spawned a mythology of the ‘slenderverse’as well as various games and a low-budget film in 2013. TV shows such as Supernatural and Law and Order have also used the character as inspiration
Sony’s Screens Gems — which specializes in genre fare — is in negotiations to partner with Mythology, Madhouse, and It Is No Dream to produce and distribute a feature film and is targeting an Autumn production start. Producers plan to take the film’s script, written by David Birke, out to directors soon.
The Slender Man is not without controversy though when in 2014, when the character was connected to a number of real life incidents. In Wisconsin, two 12-year-old girls stabbed a classmate 19 times to allegedly please the character, while later that year a 14-year-old girl set her house on fire, with her family inside, citing a similar motivation.
Frankly if they wanted some freaky photos to look at we would have submitted the Editors family album.(‘you’re fired!’ – Ed)
