We’ve always liked the Predator films apart from Alien v Predator:Requiem, a film so dimly lit that it was like looking at the dark soul of Simon Cowell stomping on wannabe singers dreams.
However after Robert Rodriguez lacklustre Predators in 2010 which made $127m worldwide the writer / director Shane Black has picked up the baton and written and directed The Predator.
In his version the universe’s most lethal hunters are bigger, better and badder having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. So when a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race. Expect all manner of mayhem to be unleashed.
The Predator will star Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, Edward James Olmos, Jake Busey, Alfie Allen and Yvonne Strahovski.
Fans of the predator franchise will be aware that Shane Black starred in the original film back in 1987 and was the first of the soldiers to get taken out (and not for dinner). Black is a well known fan of the film and carries a lot of clout in Hollywood after the huge success of Iron Man 3 which made $1.2billion, one of the most successful Marvel films outside of The Avengers films. Here Black has co written the film with Fred Dekker and directs too.
There were a bunch of rumours about the film including that 50 Cent was to star and rumours persist that Schwarzenegger will make a cameo but we’re not so sure. Arnie was meant to return for the second film but declined and hasn’t been in one since. Perhaps it will change for this new one.
The Predator opens in the US and the UK September 14th.
