The Twister sequel

1996 saw the arrival of the summer blockbuster, ‘Twister’ a Steven Spielberg produced , Jan de Bont directed spectacle set around tornadoes being chased by a bunch of thrill seekers. Earning $94m off its $92m budget and earning Oscar nominations in the visual effects and sound categories it is a surprise that its only now 27 years later that there’s talk of a Twister sequel that is set to be released on 19th July 2024.

It will star Glen Powell, great in Top Gun Maverick, alongside Daisy Edgar Jones and will be directed by Lee Isaac Chung , something of a radical change in genre after his last film the impressive Minari (reviewed HERE). This Twister sequel is described as a “new chapter” of and plot details for “Twisters”, as it will be titled, remain under wraps but what is known is that Edgar-Jones will star as a former storm chaser who, after surviving a disastrous tornado encounter, now works a desk job but, and call us mad if you wish, we’re guessing it will involve the stars going into the eye of the storm again. The new film is not expected to bring back old characters which included the late Bill Paxton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
