‘Truth or Dare’ is a new Blumhouse Productions film who are now the premiere horror studio producing a load of great horror films that have included hit after hit. In the past ten years they have been behind franchise films Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge, Ouija & Sinister. All made huge money on a tiny budget and have been anointed respectability with the recent Best Screenplay Oscar for ‘Get Out‘ going to Jordan Peele who at the same time is the first black screenwriter to win the award.
Next up on what seems to be an unstoppable roster of hit movies is ‘Truth or Dare’ a film based on the popular pub game which are Editor frequently finds himself playing with us and invariably getting so bladdered that he willingly takes on other peoples dares which result in finding himself obliged to meet the local magistrates the following day. (‘You’re fired! – Ed).
But we digress because Truth or Dare is a supernatural thriller featuring Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) and Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf). A harmless game of “Truth or Dare” among friends turns deadly when someone—or something—begins to punish those who tell a lie—or refuse the dare……(and it’s not our Editor doing the punishing!). Truth or Dare co-stars Violett Beane, Hayden Szeto, Landon Liboiron, Sophia Taylor Ali and Nolan Gerard Funk (No, us neither, so we’re guessing they won’t last very long before Death deals doom to them).
Directed by Jeff Wadlow whose most notable previous film was the sequel Kick-Ass 2 which was something of a disappointment aft the first film which was reflected in its poor box office and Jim Carrey effectively disowning the film and was so keen to disassociate himself from it that he refused to do any publicity.
From the trailer ‘Truth or Dare’ looks like it will serve up its fair share of shocks, although there does seem to be a lot of CGI’d rictus smiles in this. Truth or Dare looks as though it’s aimed for the same teen market as Ouija
Film opens in the UK and US on April 13th.
