Shot back last year for release in winter 2019 the Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films release of the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is here and pretty impressive it is too. The follow-up to the celebrated 2017 film adaptation of the DC Comics title, with both actress Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins returning it also sees Kristen Wiig looking impressive also.
The story fast forwards to the 1980s as Diana’s next big screen adventure finds her facing two all-new foes: Max Lord played by Pedro Pascal currently in Star Wars TV spin off The Mandalorian and The Cheetah played by Wiig. The film stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta.
Not much is known about the plot except a possible love triangle theme but the films release has been moved about a fair bit with four release date shifts, the first being December 20th, 2019 to November 8th, 2019 in order to avoid competing against The Rise of Skywalker. Once it was announced that the 25th James Bond film No Time to Die was to leave it’s originally scheduled November 1st spot, Warner Bros. moved the film’s release up a week, in order to take an extra week advantage. The fourth schedule change, pushed the film back by 7 months to June 5th, 2020 as Warner Bros. realized the success of the first film’s June 2nd, 2017 release.
The Wonder Woman 1984 trailer looks great setting the mid 80’s period setting brilliantly against a reworking of New Order seminal Blue Monday track cleverly reworked for key moments in the trailer. Whatever they’re doing it looks like director Patty Jenkins has got a sure fire hit with a much anticipated sequel.
“Wonder Woman 1984” is set to open in theaters on June 5, 2020 in 2D and 3D in select theaters and IMAX.
