We really liked the Cruella film (read our review HERE) and its seems a lot of other do too with $48m being taken at the box office and Disney+ streaming already (although the studio has declined to release any public audience data at present) and due to that there is a Cruella sequel already being planned with the execs at Disney loving Miss De’Vil with the film only just having started its second week of release.
If you have not seen it yet then “Cruella” is a live-action prequel to the Disney 1961 animated classic “One Hundred and One Dalmatians”. Disney is already in talks with the films director Craig Gillespie and also the film’s screenwriter Tony McNamara and it believed that both will be returning for the sequel. At present Emma Stone’s involvement has not been confirmed but it is difficult to imagine a Cruella sequel without her conniving, fur-loving villain. Whether Glenn Close, who played the role in two live action versions will return as an executive producer on any Cruella sequel has also to be confirmed.
In a statement Disney have said, “We are very pleased with ‘Cruella’s’ box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney Plus Premier Access performance to date. The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes in addition to A’s in every demographic from CinemaScore on opening weekend, ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings. We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”
So from that its highly likely that a sequel will be happening sooner rather than later.
