Back in 2018 the first Aquaman blew everyone away and made over $1.1b worldwide. But that times have changed significantly over the past few years with the pandemic taking its effect on film releases ( the sequel release has been delayed by a year) , Amber Heard’s disastrous lost court case found her vilified worldwide, rumours of multiple reshoots and a change of execs at Warners for the DC universe has not been without issue. So the release and first look at the sequel ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ trailer will prove a relief for many that director James Wan has done it again with what looks like an epic and hugely entertaining follow film to look forward to.
Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
Quite how much Amber Heard is in this is unknown but Ben Affleck returns as Batman / Bruce Wayne in what will be his final appearance in the role and Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren and Nicole Kidman all return and from what we can see in the trailer this looks to be on a truly epic scale
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is released on 20th December 2023
