With films like the Kingsman franchise, Kick Ass and X Men under his belt director Matthew Vaughn has proved his command of the quirky yet bonkers action films and the Argylle trailer looks sets to continue in the same vein.
Elly Conway, an introverted spy novelist who seldom leaves her home, is drawn into the real world of espionage when the plots of her books get a little too close to the activities of a sinister underground syndicate. When Aiden, a spy, shows up to save her (he says) from being kidnapped or killed (or both), Elly and her beloved cat Alfie are plunged into a covert world where nothing, and no one, is what it seems.
There’s a host of big name stars in the film that includes Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryce Dallas Howard, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, John Cena, and Samuel L. Jackson along with Dua Lipa in her big screen debut. The film is based on the 2022 spy novel “Argylle” from author Ellie Conway and follows the world’s greatest spy “Argylle” in a globe-trotting adventure and is intended to be the first of at least three films in the franchise and is set in America, London and multiple locations across the world.
Written by Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman), produced by Vaughn’s regular collaborators Adam Bohling and David Reid, as well as Fuchs. Matthew Vaughn commented, “When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming’s books of the 50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre”, which is a pretty bold claim by any standard!
