Could ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ be a big Oscar winner…….?

.......an Oscar was in sight for the apes.....

With Wonder Woman being rumoured to be pushed for a number of Oscar nominations it seems the other summer blockbuster that is being lined up for a big push is War for the Planet of the Apes. 20th Century Fox who financed the film are wanting it to feature in next year’s Oscars where the Apes film will be 50 years old (the first film, Planet of the Apes was first released in 1968).

Reports have leaked that there will be a major campaign by Fox to get the film nominated in a large number of categories and to get the ball rolling they are hoping that a critics circle will nominate and award the film in a number of categories. Those categories are thought to include both craft (cinematography, music, make up, visual effects, production design, costumes) and higher profile awards and ultimately a Best Film nomination. Perhaps this year for the first time a motion capture performance will be nominated in which case surely Andy Serkis must be nominated for his role as Cesar which if he wins will probably be the Academy finally recognising his work on all his previous films (Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, Tin Tin, The Hobbit).

At present War for the Planet of the Apes has made $359m worldwide, still a success, but has made only half what the second film earned.
