At 91 years old Clint Eastwood is still directing films at a rate that is the envy of others half his age. In fact back in 2018 he turned out two films in a year with The 15:17 to Paris and The Mule. Well now we have is latest with the arrival of the Cry Macho trailer which looks both uplifting and poignant especially if this really is his last film.
The Cry Macho trailer stars Eastwood as Mike Milo, a one-time rodeo star and washed-up horse breeder who, in 1979, takes a job from an ex-boss to bring the man’s young son home from Mexico. Forced to take the backroads on their way to Texas, the unlikely pair faces an unexpectedly challenging journey, during which the world-weary horseman finds unexpected connections and his own sense of redemption.
Also starring are Eduardo Minett as the young boy, Rafo, in his feature film debut, Natalia Traven (“Collateral Damage,”) as Marta, with Dwight Yoakam (“Logan Lucky,”) as Mike’s former employer, Howard Polk. The cast also includes Fernanda Urrejola (“Blue Miracle,”) as Leta and Horacio Garcia-Rojas as Aurelio. Oscar winner Eastwood directs from a screenplay by Nick Schenk and N. Richard Nash based on the novel by Nash.
From what we’ve seen of the Cry Macho trailer this could be a bit of a tearjerker. 2008 saw the release of ‘Gran Torino’ which was purportedly going to be Eastwood’s last film as actor but since then he’s starred in three more films and he has still got the screen presence but if this really is to be his last film then the subject matter of man looking back on his own life is an appropriate one to go out on.
Cry Macho will be released nationwide on 12th November 2021 by Warner Bros. Pictures
