The Destroyer trailer is a film that follows the moral and existential odyssey of LAPD detective Erin Bell (Nicole Kidman) who, as a young cop, was placed undercover with a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of that gang re-emerges many years later, she must work her way back through the remaining members and into her own history with them to finally reckon with the demons that destroyed her past.
Now we are fans of Nicole Kidman and the Destroyer trailer follows in the wake of glowing reviews for the film playing on the film festival circuit. This looks like tis another likely awards contender the Best Actress for Nicole Kidman who already has an Oscar under her belt back in 2003 for The Hours for wearing a false nose to play Virginia Wolff. From the Destroyer trailer she’s again done herself no favours on the glam stakes looking pretty beat up and from the dialogue it sounds like her character needs some psychiatric help.
The film has a good supporting cast too including Sebastian Stan and Toby Kebbell who is a fantastic actor but has chosen some projects which don’t show just what he is capable of (Kong:Skull Island, Ben Hur, A Wizards Tale). Also co-starring are Tatiana Maslany (Stronger), Bradley Whitford (Get Out), Jade Pettyjohn and Scoot McNairy (Aftermath, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice).
Karyn Kusama directs from a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. Kusama’s films always have strong female lead roles and her last film ‘Jennifer’s Body’ back in 2009 starred Megan Fox who was on the rise after Transformers. But she also directed the Charlize Theron film ‘Aeon Flux’ and Michelle Rodriguez’s debut, ‘Girlfight’.
“Destroyer” opens in New York and Los Angeles on December 25th and in the UK on 25th January 2019.
