French actress Isabelle Huppert has always been a favourite and had a bit of a career resurgence with the controversial ‘Elle’ directed by Paul Verhoeven which divided opinion. We now have news of her latest with the arrival of the ‘Frankie’ trailer.

Unfolding over the course of a late summer’s day in the stunningly beautiful Portuguese town of Sintra, the wonderful new film from acclaimed director Ira Sachs follows a family that has gathered for a holiday organised by family matriarch Frankie (Isabelle Huppert). In this fairy tale setting three generations, husbands and wives, parents and children, friends and lovers – all stirred by their romantic impulses – discover both the cracks between them but also unexpected depths of feeling as they grapple with a life-changing experience in the historic town known for its dense gardens, fairy-tale villas and palaces.

Frankie trailer - Isabelle Huppert and an all star cast!

From the Frankie trailer there’s a great cast with Huppert that includes BRENDAN GLEESON, MARISA TOMEI, JÉRÉMIE REINER, PASCAL GREGGORY AND GREG KINNEAR and is written by MAURICIO ZACHARIAS AND IRA SACHS. FRANKIE is brought to audiences by writer/director Ira Sachs (Little Men, Love is Strange, Keep the Lights On), his frequent collaborator Mauricio Zacharias (Little Men, Love is Strange, Trinta).

Isabelle Huppert has had an interesting career with some intriguing films in her back catalogue. Apart from an extensive list of French film she has appeared in films as diverse as director David O Russell’s ‘I Heart Huckabees’, the excellent drama ‘Louder than Bombs’ and most recently she was villainous in ‘Greta’ a thriller co-starring Chloe Grace Moretz. Like many films Frankie has had its release delayed for over a year due to the pandemic and at least this will now get a theatrical release rather than going to streaming.

FRANKIE opens in UK cinemas on 28th May 2021.
