How director Aleem Khan got actress Joanna Scanlan to speak Urdu....

The film was supported by BBC Films and the BFI and has received selections at Cannes Critics’ Week, Telluride, TIFF and the London Film Festival and has gone on to garner huge acclaim for its story set against an Islamic background. It is another great performance in a role we’ve not seen Joanna Scanlan not play before and went to great pains to get right and done extensive research into Islam and the Arabic culture to portray the role of the grieving widow who is shocked by what she discovers

We spoke to director Aleem Khan about the film where he told us where the story came from, how he got lead actress Joanna Scanlan to speak several scenes in Urdu & Arabic, as well as how he shot several sensitive scenes with her as well as a bit about his own back ground and what we can expect to see from him next.
