Filming on Doctor Strange 2 or Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness has hit issues to such a degree that one source has described as ‘significant’ and are now taking place in Los Angeles that includes “additional photography” and “reshoots.” Rumours are that this will take six weeks possibly longer and will be for six days a week! That’s 36 days minimum. Sam Raimi is still directing Loki head writer Michael Waldron, who wrote the script, will also be writing the new material. Cumberbatch is obviously in the reshoots but its not known who in the cast is being called back. The crew on these reshoots also worked on the recent pickups for the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as the additional shooting for the Oscar Isaac series Moon Knight.
Though the scale of the Doctor Strange 2 reshoots might sound alarming the scale of Marvel movies often requires reshoots and pick ups though some have expressed their surprise at the duration that the reshoots. However it appears two weeks are for principal photography that could not be completed due actor availability issues and the idea that the reshoots are for a rejig of the story have been dismissed. The film began shooting in the U.K. in November 2020 but paused in January 2021 due to the pandemic which led to slowdowns in the UK and prompted Marvel and Disney to unexpectedly announced the pushing-back of Multiverse of Madness from March 25, 2022, to May 6, 2022 whilst Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were moved forward with their new release.
The production had not been without its issues after original director Scott Derrickson had co-written a script left due to ‘creative differences’ and what was already an ambitious project with one aspect dealing with alternate versions. Raimi and Waldron were hired and are rumoured to have created a whole new film on compressed schedule. Expect more Doctor Strange 2 reshoots news soon.
