Earlier this year we dropped the news HERE that there’s to be a reboot of the classic Invisible Man and and now we have first Invisible Man trailer written and directed by Leigh Whannell which is going to be a new and contemporary take on the H.G. Wells’ story for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions.
The film stars Elisabeth Moss (The Kitchen) as Cecilia Kass, a woman trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). She escapes in the dead of night and goes into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge), and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid). But when Cecilia’s abusive ex dies by suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turn lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, her sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see.
The Invisible Man was going to be part of Universal’s Dark Universe franchise featuring all their classic monsters but after the critical mauling that The Mummy took it was all scrapped. The Invisible Man trailer has Oliver Jackson-Cohen in the title role (if the Dark Universe had continued it would have been Johnny Depp) in a film that veers away from the man in bandages and dark glasses that was in the original and this Invisible Man trailer is far more in keeping with writer – director Leigh Whannell’s ouevre. Whannell is great at this sort of adaptation and his recent film ‘Upgrade’ deserved a far wider audience hopefully this new film will perform well as the last version of the story was Paul Verhoeven‘s ‘Hollow Man’ way back in 2000.
The film opens February 28th 2020.
