THE IRISHMAN (2019) Joe Pesci (Russell Bufalino) , Robert De Niro (Frank Sheeran)

So The Irishman trailer, the new Martin Scorsese film, has been a long time coming mainly due to a number of technical problems to de-age the actors leading to a significant increase in costs as we outlined here some while ago.

Bur what a cast! Robert De Niro and Al Pacino here working for Scorsese for the first time and the long awaited return to screen for Joe Pesci (who has come out of retirement having reportedly turned down the role multiple times before finally accepting) all starring in THE IRISHMAN trailer an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

Apart from the three man stars there’s also Harvey Keitel, Ray Romano, Bobby Cannavale, Anna Paquin, Stephen Graham, Stephanie Kurtzuba, Jack Huston, Kathrine Narducci, Jesse Plemons, Domenick Lombardozzi, Paul Herman, Gary Basaraba, Marin Ireland all working from a screenplay by Steven Zaillan and the film is edited by Scorsese’s favourite editor Thelma Schoonmaker.

The Irishman, at 106 days, was the longest shoot for a Scorsese film having wrapped way back in early 2018 and was the first time he has directed De Niro since 1995’s Casino and Keitel since 1988’s controversial The Last Temptation of Christ. The film will debut on September 27th at the New York film festival but will be a Netflix film with a theatrical release dates to be confirmed. We cannot wait.
