The release of any Martin Scorsese film always has fans excited and the Killers of the Flower Moon trailer, a long gestating and long in the making film finally gives us a glimpse at what we can look forward to. Scorsese is now 80 years old and by his own admission he’s said that he is running out of time to make all the films he wants to make and there’s a sense that this could be one of his final films especially when he frequently refers to his own idol Akira Kurosawa who died at 83 years of age
At the turn of the 20th century, oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder. Based on a true story and told through the improbable romance of Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone), “Killers of the Flower Moon” is an epic western crime saga, where real love crosses paths with unspeakable betrayal. Also starring Robert De Niro and Jesse Plemons, “Killers of the Flower Moon” is directed by Academy Award winner Martin Scorsese from a screenplay by Eric Roth and Martin Scorsese, based on David Grann’s best-selling book.
This is getting its first screening at an out of competition showing at this years Cannes Film Festival which has just recently started this year and will get a theatrical release in October 2023 before it goes to Apple’s own streaming channel (who co-financed it with Paramount)
