Now we’ve always been big fans of director David Fincher and we’re especially keen to see his latest film as its been six years since he last directed feature film, Gone Girl, back in 2014 and now we have his latest with the arrival of the Mank trailer. The film follows screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz’s tumultuous development of Orson Welles’ iconic masterpiece Citizen Kane (1941) and keen eyed fans will spot the Rosebud reference shot at the end of the Mank trailer. Fincher has assembled an interesting cast many of which are glimpsed in the trailer and are as follows:
GARY OLDMAN as HERMAN J. MANKIEWICZ
AMANDA SEYFRIED as MARION DAVIES
LILY COLLINS as RITA ALEXANDER
ARLISS HOWARD as LOUIS B. MAYER
TOM PELPHREY as JOE MANKIEWICZ
SAM TROUGHTON as JOHN HOUSEMAN
FERDINAND KINGSLEY as IRVING THALBERG
TUPPENCE MIDDLETON as SARA MANKIEWICZ
TOM BURKE as ORSON WELLES
JOSEPH CROSS as CHARLES LEDERER
JAMIE McSHANE as SHELLY METCALF
TOBY LEONARD MOORE as DAVID O. SELZNICK
MONIKA GOSSMANN as FRAULEIN FREDA
and CHARLES DANCE (who appeared in Fincher’s first feature film Alien 3) as WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST
Now intriguingly both Fincher first and then Oldman married to Donya Fiorentino with both marriages ending badly in divorce. Its also the first black and white film something which he insisted on and became a sticking point for some years when he first expressed interest in the project and is another true life story and this is very much a pet project of his with the script having been written by his father Jack Fincher. The film is for Netflix who are releasing some of the most interesting projects from the worlds best directors and Fincher has worked for them before with his Mindhunters series.
The film will release in select UK cinemas in November and on Netflix December 4, 2020.
