Latest in what appears to be a very long list now of Liam Neeson actioners is The Marksman trailer which co-stars Jacob Perez, Teresa Ruiz and Juan Pablo Raba.
The Marksman trailer sees Neeson play an ex-Marine sharpshooter turned hardened Arizona rancher who wants to be left alone as he fends off eviction notices and tries to make a living on an isolated stretch of borderland. Everything changes when he witnesses 11-year-old migrant Miguel (Jacob Perez) fleeing with his mother Rosa (Teresa Ruiz) from drug cartel assassins led by the ruthless Mauricio (Juan Pablo Raba). After being caught in a shoot-out, a dying Rosa begs Jim to take her son to safety to her family in Chicago. Defying his cop daughter Sarah (Katheryn Winnick), Jim sneaks Miguel out of the local U.S. Customs and Border Patrol station and together, they hit the road with the group of killers in pursuit.
Liam Neeson’s last film was Honest Thief, one of the few films to get a theatrical release in 2020 but only earned $27m worldwide hardly surprising in the current climate. Hopefully when The Marksman is released there will be a little bit more normality with more cinemas open but at present the future of cinema is still up in the air. By our reckoning since 2008’s Taken made him an action star we reckon on him having made a film in the genre every year to date.
Robert Lorenz helms from a script by Chris Charles, Danny Kravitz and Robert Lorenz. This is only Lorenz second movie as director and he worked on the second unit of many of Clint Eastwood’s films notably American Sniper which seems a good basis to helm a film about a ex military marksman
The movie opens in the US on January 22nd 2022.
