Matt Damon and Ben Affleck team up for …… well rumour has it that the pair of buddies are both being tipped to star in Ridley Scott’s recently announced next directorial effort titled “The Last Duel” at Scott Free and Pearl Street and Damon, Affleck and Scott will also be on producing detail.
The Last Duel is a revenge tale based on a novel by Eric Jager and the script is written by Damon, Affleck and celebrated filmmaker Nicole Holofcener and is almost finished. The new film would be a first Damon and Affleck team up since their first screenwriting collaboration since their Oscar for 1997’s “Good Will Hunting” starring Robin Williams.
It’s story follows two best friends – the Norman knight Jean de Carrouges and the squire Jacques Le Gris where de Carrouges goes to war and returns to accuse Le Gris of raping his wife Margerite de Carrouges. Like Gemma Collins claiming to be a celebrity no one believes the woman, and the soldier appeals to the King of France to undo a decision handed down by Count Pierre d’Anencon, which favored Le Gris. That decision handed down is that the two men fight a duel to the death and the one left alive would be declared the winner as a sign of God’s will. However the consequences if Jean de Carrouges loses are catastrophic as his wife will be burned at the stake for punishment for her false accusation.
The Last Duel is expected to be set up at at Disney-owned 20th Century Fox where Scott makes all his films but if Disney opts not to make it then there are apparantly numerous other studios who are reportedly waiting in the wings eager to get the Matt Damon and Ben Affleck team for themselves…..at least its not another Ridley Scott Alien film!
