With reboots of franchises continue (Paranormal Activity is one such – read about it HERE) and film adaptation of games continues with the reboot and relaunch with the Mortal Kombat trailer.
This new Mortal Kombat trailer follows MMA fighter Cole Young (Lewis Tan), accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage – or why Outworld’s Emperor Shang Tsung (Chin Han) has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim). Ultimately he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe.
Aside from Tan, Han and Taslim the other cast members includes Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jackson ‘Jax’ Bridges, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Max Huang as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer as Mileena, Matilda Kimber as Emily Young and Laura Brent as Allison Young.
Now our Editor submitted his pitch for a new Mortal Kombat film which would have featured the UK’s leading talent vacuums & professional salad dodgers Gemma Collins & Alison Hammond as sumo wrestlers engaged in a battle for the last slice of pizza at the local all-you-can-eat buffet. The idea was abandoned in development due to the prohibitive cost of the on set catering. This new Mortal Kombat trailer looks pretty brutal with it rumoured to get an R rating in the US. The first films in 1995 did well earning a respectable $122m but the 1997 sequel fared badly earning only $51m putting an end to the franchise until now. That top director James Wan is involved with the project bodes well having had huge success with blockbusters Aquaman & Fast 7.
“Mortal Kombat” is set for release nationwide on April 16th both in cinemas and on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.
