What’s not to like about Charlize Theron? A great actress and she’s done some pretty good kick ass action films such as Mad Max Fury Road (read about the problems making the film HERE) and Atomic Blonde. Well now we have the latest addition to her fight fest films with the arrival of the The Old Guard trailer.
Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.
Based on the acclaimed five part graphic novel by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood who, like Cathy Yates director of Birds of Prey, will show that women are just as capable of shooting action films. It’s the latest in an increasingly long line of impressive action films funded by Netflix with the most recent being the Chris Hemsworth starrer ‘Extraction‘ which proved to be their most watched film to date. THE OLD GUARD trailer is a gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks. Theron has decent support with Chiwetel Ejiofor and also Matthias Schoenaerts who, should they ever make a biopic about Vladimir Putin is a shoo-in for the lead role. As well as locations in Morocco The Old Guard was also part shot in various UK venues including Kent as well as at Shepperton studios.
The film is released on Netflix on July 10th 2020
