Now we had a film called Ghost Stories a couple of years ago but now we have a Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trailer which from what we’ve seen looks pretty good.
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying tome.
Now this has been directed by Andre Ovredal who made the pretty fab Trollhunter back in 2010 which was on the verge of having a Hollywood remake which looks like will now never happen. He followed that up with The Autopsy of Jane Doe with Brian Cox another very good creepy thriller that deserved to do better. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trailer is keen to emphasize the involvement of Guillermo Del Toro himself no stranger to spooky films and now that’s he’s got an Oscar to his name after the success of The Shape of Water he’s got the lout to get films like this made.
Based on a series of iconic books from the 1980’s the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark trailer has some startling imagery in it that bodes well for the film when it’s released later this year.
At present its released in the USA on 9th August 2019 with a date to be confirmed in the UK.
