Aside from Scorsese and Tarantino the only other director whose name makes a film an eagerly anticipated is Christopher Nolan and now with have the first glimpse of his newest film with the Tenet trailer. As with all his films details have been kept tightly guarded but from the Tenet trailer it looks like the reports of it being an espionage thriller appear to be true with the spin here being that it involves the afterlife but plot specifics are still under wraps. In fact Robert Pattinson told an interviewer that, like several of the other actors, he was locked in a room with the script and allowed to read it once only.

Shot on a mixture of IMAX and 70mm it was filmed across seven countries and there seems to be a hint of car chase not dissimilar from that in the second Matrix film. The film stars the likes of John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Kenneth Branagh, Dimple Kapadia, Clemence Poesy and of course Michael Caine who has appeared in eight of the directors films to date. However he has lost his regular collaborators Hans Zimmer (whose schedule clashed with the Dune remake) and also Editor Lee Smith who was working on 1917. Though this is the first trailer there was a teaser shown in cinemas with Hobbs & Shaw which was never released online.

We are stoked to see anything Nolan makes and Dunkirk was our film of the year when it came out so our expectations are high for this. Nolan has always been very open about his love of the Bond films which was most apparent with ‘Inception’ and there’s been persistent rumours that one day he will direct a Bond film – we doubt that will ever happen though.

“Tenet” opens in the UK and USA on July 17th 2020.
