At 87 years old Clint Eastwood is still directing films at a rate of roughly one every two years and after 2016’s real life drama ‘Sully’ he’s made another real life drama called, “The 15:17 To Paris” based on the book by Jeffrey E. Stern about the thwarted terrorist attack on a train from Thalys in August 2015.
It was all over the press at the time and followed a terrorist atrocity to beset Paris. The story follows three young Americans traveling through Europe who prevent the terrorist carrying out his plot to kill passengers on a train. The film explores the childhood struggles of the three before leading up the attack.
This tale of heroism is substantially different from any similar story as the three men, Spencer Stone, Anthony Sadler and Alek Skarlatos will be playing themselves in the scenes set in 2015 (with younger actors playing them in flashbacks), which is something we’ve not seen done in a major Hollywood film before and is something of a gamble for both Eastwood and the studio.
Mercifully this didn’t happen on British soil as, ‘The 15:17 to Paris…….will be delayed’, is not the best of titles.
Film opens in the UK on 9th February 2018.
