Tom Cruise remake of a Clint Eastwood film

Whilst shooting on Mission Impossible 8 rumbles on rumours emerged about the Cruise-meister’s next film. A while ago director Christopher McQuarrie hinted at their next project being something pretty gnarly and now several sources are suggesting a Tom Cruise remake of a Clint Eastwood film. And the Clint Eastwood film will be ‘The Gauntlet’ made way back in 1977.

It is one one of Clint’s craziest films with the icon playing a tough but mediocre cop assigned to escort a prostitute (Sondra Locke) into custody from Las Vegas to Phoenix, so that she can testify in a mob trial. But a lot of people are literally betting that they won’t make it into town alive….. and are determined that neither of them will make it

The film has a load of deliriously bonkers action sequences that includes the villains of the piece shooting a house to pieces and a climatic sequence with Clint driving a greyhound bus down a street where the entire world seems to have turned having laid their hands on every available gun and fill the coach with more holes than a colander. It’s higely enjoyable mindless Satrurday night entertainment at its best and frankly we would love to see Cruise and McQuarrie turn their hands to some John Woo style shoot outs and MI style crazy stunts.

With Cruise starring it is rumoured that Scarlett Johansson will play the female lead. We await confirmation from the studios and trade papers about the Tom Cruise remake of a Clint Eastwood film but it would be an awesome actioner for the summer season.
