Twenty two years after the original animated feature we are about to get a live action Lilo and Stitch film that was announced all the way back in 2018 before the pandemic put the brakes on it going into production Production wrapped recently and here’s what we know about a live action Lilo and Stitch film.

  • Dean Fleischer Camp directs and whose last film was the Oscar nominated ‘Marcel with the shoes on’ (reviewed HERE)
  • The film began productionhttps://anygoodfilms.com/marcel-the-shell-with-shoes-on-review/ again in April 2023 but it was shut down in May 2023 following the start of the writers strike and remained so as the actors strike began a couple of months later.
  • Kaipot Dudoit taking on the part of Nani, Lilo’s (newcomer Maia Kealoha) sister after Sydney Elizebeth Adugong had been  cast in the role when the film makers were accused of colorism as Adugong’s skin was lighter than Nani’s in the 2002 film.
  • Kahiau Machado was set to portray David Kawena, Nani’s love interest and Lilo’s friend. But after his racist language was found on his social media he was recast with Kaipot Dudoit taking the role.
  • The film will be released on Disney+late in 2024
  • Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the first film, will portray a new character in the live-action, named Mrs. Kekoa, while Amy Hill, the voice actor behind Mrs. Hasagawa, will take on another new character, Tūtū.
  • Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen and Courtney B. Vance take on the other roles respectively taking on the roles of Jumba, Pleakley and Cobra Bubbles.
  • Stitch. The dog-like alien will be computer-generated, but actual actors will portray his fellow extraterrestrials: Jumba, Pleakley and Cobra Bubbles.
  • The live-action Lilo and Stitch film will follow the same storyline as the original animated film.
