With Will Ferrell’s Holmes and Watson failing miserably at the box office perhaps Will Ferrell goes Downhill is a little presumptious as Downhill is the title of the film he has just started shooting (see what we did there?).
Anyway principal photography on DOWNHILL has begun in Austria and is written by Jesse Armstrong (IN THE LOOP, FOUR LIONS) and directed by Nat Faxon and Jim Rash (THE WAY, WAY BACK), and stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus (ENOUGH SAID), Will Ferrell (DADDY’S HOME TWO), Miranda Otto (CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA), Zach Woods (SILICON VALLEY), Zoë Chao (STRANGERS), Julian Grey (GODLESS), Ammon Jacob Ford (SEAL TEAM) and Kristofer Hivju (GAME OF THRONES).
Downhill is an adaptation of the 2014 Golden Globe nominated Swedish film FORCE MAJEURE where barely escaping an avalanche during a ski vacation in the Alps throws a seemingly picture-perfect family into disarray as they are forced to reevaluate life, and how they truly feel about each other.
Producer Anthony Bregman said “Downhill is a tale of bad judgement and moral weakness, so how fitting that Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell embody those values. Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, of course, are more than qualified to capture the fallout.
”We’re thrilled to once again be working with the inimitable duo of Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. And it goes without saying that bringing Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell together for the first time on screen is a dream come true. The Austrian alps are in for a comedic avalanche,” said David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents of Production, Film and Television.
Obviously Will Ferrell goes Downhill is far from the truth with a high comedy hit rate than someone like Adam Sandler has and he’s going to be making a film about Eurovision not long after this completes filming. Not that we DO want to see!
