Win Quentin Tarantino’s ‘THE HATEFUL EIGHT’ on dvd.
With ‘The Force Awakens’ opening just before Christmas last year and steamrolling over everything in its way one film that managed to hold its own was Quentin Tarantino’s ‘THE HATEFUL EIGHT’ with its all star cast including of course Samuel L Jackson, shot in glorious 70mm and in two versions. Tarantino’s intended cut was what was called a roadshow celluloid film version and ran at 187minutes and a shorter version digitally projected version ran at 167minutes.
Set a short time after the American Civil War the story follows bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) escorting his prisoner Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) to the town of Red Rock where she will face justice. With the heavy snow stopping them from travelling further they find shelter in a cabin with other characters played by, amongst others, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen & Bruce Dern also on intent on getting to the town. As the evening goes on, the weather gets worse and secrets are spilled and it seems that some may not make it to Red Rock……
This has many of Tarantino’s trademarks: a story split into chapters, flashbacks, outrageous speeches – Samuel L Jackson’s is quite something! some extremely bloody carnage and of course great performances.
This was a film that was almost never made when the script leaked online and Tarantino decided that as the cat was out of the bag he would release it as a novel instead and move onto another script. However after a read through that was performed for the public he was persuaded otherwise.
The film was released to much acclaim and it won an Oscar for Ennio Morricone’s Original Score with Jennifer Jason Leigh nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Robert Richardson for Best Cinematography.
The film is available on Digital HD on 2nd May and on Blu Ray & Dvd on 9th May
