Opening to rave reviews its now been confirmed that Spiderman Brand New day has had the biggest opening weekend ever in the US earning $360m and overtaking Avengers Endgame which had been the leader with $357.1m in 2019. However it doesn’t win the global title as Endgame made $1.2billion whereas the new Spiderman has topped out at £927m. Sony had initially been projecting a much less dazzling start of $195 million domestic and $465 million global that would have still put the film among the top 10 all-time debuts so this official total is far beyond their expectations.
But the record breaking does not stop there with the film also setting records for the biggest Thursday previews and the top Friday opening as well as becoming Sony’s best-ever launch. The films huge success will have an impact om IMAX screens who have announced that it will alternate screenings The Odyssey. It is thought highly likely that Brand New Day will now easily exceed No Way Home which eanreed a final total of $1.9m at the end of its run.
The huge success means that Marvel Studios can look forward to December’s release of Avengers: Doomsday doing brisk business too.
But with this being the biggest opening weekend ever in the US its hard to see what could ever best it
