With so many game to film adaptations having been made over the decades there are still a load of big titles that have not made the jump yet. One of those is the Call of Duty film which is finally about to start production.
What was announced…
Over the weekend at Fanatics Fest in New York City director and co-writer Peter Berg confirmed that the film will adapt the franchise’s most popular and recognizable subseries namely Modern Warfare. Co writing the film will be Taylor Sheridan who wrote the superb films ‘Sicario’ and ‘Solado’ (please will someone greenlight the third film in the trilogy) but has also written a number of terrific TV series including Yellowstone. The studio behind the film is Paramount. Berg has several impressive films that make him ideally suited to helm the film including The Kingdom, Lone Survivor and Mile 22.
Call of Duty history….
The Modern Warfare’ titles, get a seventh overall entry this year and the games have sold more than 500 million copies worldwide and remains a multi billion dollar title that has taken in World War II, Vietnam, North Korea and up to the present and future too and follow Captain John Price (Barry Sloane), Sergeant Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick (Elliot Knight), Captain John ‘Soap’ MacTavish (Kevin McKidd) and the Task Force 141 team. Whether those characters and actors will make the jump to the big screen is unknown at present but it would seem highly likely.
The planned theatrical release date for the Call of Duty film is set for 30th June 2028 which will coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Call of Duty franchise that which debuted way back in 2003. and there will be further game titles released before then also.
