We thought we’d have a look at some films and some iconic roles turned down by actors which would have either boosted their carer on made the film completely different. In fact it’s difficult to imagine some of the actors in the roles or that they’re were considered for the role in the first place. It may surprise some that our Editor is frequently offered roles but fortunately for audiences it is nearly always sausage rolls (‘…and cheese rolls!’….-Ed).
So here’s a list of actors and the roles they were offered and turned down……
Pierce Brosnan – Tim Burton’s ‘Batman’
Tom Selleck – Indianna Jones
Christopher Walken – Han Solo
Anne Hathaway – Silver Book Linings (she only turned this down due to scheduling conflicts)
Bruce Willis – Ghost
Will Smith – The Matrix
Matt Damon – Avatar (again turned down only due to scheduling conflict)
Julia Roberts – The Proposal & The Blind Side – (Sandra Bullock took both roles & won an oscar for ‘The Blind side’)
John Travolta – Forrest Gump
Michelle Pfeiffer – Silence of the Lambs
Robin Williams – The Joker and the Riddler for Tim Burton’s Batman films
Angelina Jolie – Charlies Angels – (Lucy Liu’s role)
Sean Connery – Gandalf – Lord of the Rings
Jack Nicholson – Michael Corleone – The Godfather
Cher – The Addams Family & The Witches (Angelica Huston took both roles)
Jim Carrey – Edward Scissorhands – (lacked experience in dramatic roles at the time)
