Landing in our inbox is the Insidious The Red Door aka Insidious 5 the latest in the horror franchise started by director James wan and writer Leigh Whannell. And whilst both have helmed films as director it is now the turn of Patrick Wilson the actor who makes his debut behind the camera. The previous four films have earned a total of over $540m at the box office which is a pretty good return when they only cist an average $10m each to make.
Setting itself ten years after Chapter 2 the synopsis for the new film states , “To put their demons to rest once and for all, Josh (Wilson) and a college-aged Dalton (Simpkins) must go deeper into The Further than ever before, facing their family’s dark past and a host of new and more horrifying terrors that lurk behind the red door.”
Patrick Wilson, Rise Byrne, Ty Simpkins and Andrew Astor are all reprising their roles for The Red Door, with Peter Dager and Hiam Abbass also due to appear in currently undisclosed roles. After the film completed filming Wilson told journos, ‘Watching Dalton go to college and what does that do? Watching a young man go to college and all the new experiences and feeling like an outsider trying to fit in……. He’s got this ability that he doesn’t even know that he has of being an astral projector and traveller. …..After so long, are we still hypnotised? Is there still that trance? What does that do to your life? What does that do to your marriage? And then what does that do for a father and son relationship?”
Insidious: The Red Door will be released on 7th July 2023
