Compared to some many other countries we are lucky in the UK to have a National Health Service even if it is over run by middle managers but the Late Shift trailer follows a nurse on a busy and understaffed ….well, late shift.
Nurse Floria works with passion and professionalism in the surgical ward of a Swiss hospital. Her every move is precise. She has an open ear for patients, even in the most stressful situations, and is immediately on hand in an emergency – ideally. But in the harsh reality of her daily routine, things are often unpredictable. When she starts her late shift one day, a col-league is absent from the fully occupied, understaffed ward. Amidst the hustle and pressure, Floria looks after a seriously ill young mother and an elderly man desperately waiting for his diagnosis – with the same care and diligence as a private patient. But as the night progresses, her work becomes an ever more urgent race against time.
We have been lucky enough to already have seen the film and LATE SHIFT explores the timely theme of healthcare challenges and pays homage to nursing staff, underscoring the profound significance of compassionate care for all. Volpe’s compelling film is led by a revelatory performance from lead actress Leonie Benesch in this powerful and topical drama.
LATE SHIFT will be released in UK and Irish cinemas 1st August 2025
