The first film in the strip fest extravaganza ‘Magic Mike’ was something of an unexpected success making $167m on its meagre $7m production budget and last years sequel made for double the budget made $122m worldwide which is still a profit.
So the question as to whether there will be a third film has been answered by its Producer and star Channing Tatum at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity this week. The star has confirmed that there will be no third film and instead his focus is now on the already announced live Vegas show as well as a potential Broadway musical saying, ‘The third installment will be the show, and I think it has to evolve past these guys. The first one was about Mike, the second one was about the guys and I think the third one is really about man and woman having a conversation about sex and themselves and who we all are. That’s the next step I would like to take with the story.”
In a way this is a blessed relief to us here at AnyGoodFilms? as it will hopefully put an end to the Editor’s dream of joining the troupe of male strippers. Frankly his behaviour at turning out time at The Nags Head on Friday night is becoming ever more embarrassing as he strips down to his Y fronts in Oxford Street and, having grabbed a bottle of mazola frying oil from a nearby street food vendor then proceeds to pour it over himself in what he believes is an erotic display of bump & grind. It’s like watching Jabba the Hut trying to pole dance.
