Starring Daniel Craig as you have never seen him before the Queer trailer is a world away from super spy James Bond and is helmed by Academy-Award® nominated director Luca Guadagnino.
1950. William Lee, an American expat in Mexico City, spends his days almost entirely alone, except for a few contacts with other members of the small American community. His encounter with Eugene Allerton, an expat former soldier, new to the city, shows him, for the first time, that it might be finally possible to establish an intimate connection with somebody.
The film stars Daniel Craig, Drew Starkey, Academy-Award® nominee Lesley Manville, Jason Schwartzman, Henrique Zaga, Omar Apollo, Andra Ursuta, Andres Duprat, Ariel Shulman, Drew Droege, Michael Borremans, David Lowery, Lisandro Alonso and Colin Bates.
Queer is written by Justin Kuritzkes (Challengers also directed by Luca Guadagnino) with music from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, cinematography from Sayombhu Mukdeeprom (Suspiria), edited by Marco Costa ( Bones and All) and costume design from J.W. Anderson (Challengers).
Queer had its US Premiere in the Spotlight Gala slot at the New York Film Festival and also had its UK Premiere as a Special Presentation at the BFI London Film Festival on 17 October 2024. Several articles about this movie’s screening at the 2024 Venice Film Festival (including Jada Yuan’s piece in the Washington Post and Kyle Buchanan’s profile of Daniel Craig in the New York Times) noted that there were loud and frequent vocalizations of disgust from some male members of the audience every time there was a love scene between two men. Quite what audience members expected from a film with such a title is anyone’s guess
Queer will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 13th December 2024.
